ORCHESTRA CONTRACT, MASKS, +DOGS

In the Arts

How will large-scale concerts look this fall? For audience members, it seems that attendance will require proof of vaccination and a mask. Several orchestras have announced proof-of-vaccine requirements, and Broadway has mandated both vaccine and masks.

The Nashville Symphony will be back this fall after the organization and musicians agreed to a new contract. The orchestra recently received $4.6M in federal funding.

Beyond the Arts

The search for everlasting life is certainly not a new quest. But, momentum is gathering for the belief that science is near a point at which life will be radically extended.

A new Duke-led study examines why dogs “get” humans in a way that wolves and other animals do not. “This knack for understanding human gestures may seem unremarkable, but it’s a complex cognitive ability that is rare in the animal kingdom. Our closest relatives, the chimpanzees, can’t do it. And the dogs’ closest relative, the wolf, can’t either.”
